Hello again!
We arrived here in Postfeld in the north of Germany at 6.30pm on the 26th December. Kate was so jetlagged she didn't know if she was coming or going! Lol! Siine and her family welcomed us with open arms....it was 10 years since Kate had been here last! (Mum and Dad - Siine says Hi! And is enjoying the time very much, and she might keep us here!)
We have been very busy visiting lots of towns here: Lübeck, Preetz (where Kate went to school!), Kiel, Hamburg, Schleswig (to see the Vikings...true!), and many many tiny typical German villages (not towns). Along the way we have seen alot of old buildings and churches, some dating back to 1200s. Super old stuff! Tim is in his element! Today we are having a rest day, because we are super tired...jetlag is a killer! Tim made plans to adjust to the German time, and he was doing quite well. But on Thursday it all backfired, because he was so tired that he couldnt stay awake at all!! It was hilarious!
The weather has been....COLD! No snow, but it was 3 degrees yesterday and 4 degrees today. Yesterday i was wearing skivvy, tshirt, 2 fleece jumpers, jacket, woolen scarf, beanie, and thermal pants....and I was still cold! lol! (P.S Mum - thanks for the boots, they are perfect. Think I shall buy some more here because I dont want to ruin yours).
Tonight is New Years Eve which they call Silvester. And fireworks are legal and a tradition! So of course we bought some from Aldi....Aldi is awesome over here! And tonight hopefully we will set them off! Tim is a little excited!!!!
Breakfast is now Tims favourite meal of the day. Everyone eats together, and there is alot of bread, cheese, meats and spreads...no cereal here! They also drink huge amount of tea! So you are full for most of the day, then we are eating a snack/dinner at about 4pm to fill us up again! lol. Crazy!
We are having such a great time, it is really awesome!
So here is what we are thinking at the moment for the next week: tomorrow we will go to Oldenburg (west Germany) with Siine and her husband Wissam. Then on the 3rd of Jan we will travel to Berlin for a few days. Then we are thinking perhaps of going through Düsseldorf and Cologne to the Rhine, and then south. But we will decide and then let you know. We have booked a train from Frankfurt to Paris on the 13th Jan. And then we will be in Paris for 5 days before flying home.
With love,
Kate & Tim
